winter, then and now

I woke up to a light dusting of snow this morning.  I needed a few things from the store, and this photo of winter shopping past came to mind...

This year, my winter shopping transportation looks more like this...

You can even see the "cold" in the light of these photos!

I love my Audrey II every bit as much as I did the day I got her!  Sometimes, it really does take going without something to see how much I appreciate it.

At this time last year, the only carpool available to me left at 6:30 am.  I was getting up at 4:30 to workout because I knew I'd be too tired to get it in after work.  I could've taken a later bus, but that would've meant a 10 minute bike ride on this end and a 20 minute walk on the other end, with asthma, in all sorts of nasty winter weather.  So, I sacrificed sleep to save myself from pneumonia.  I was a miserable, sleep deprived shell of myself.

But this year, I leave for and from work on my schedule!  A meeting across town isn't a logistical puzzle.  It doesn't matter that Danish class is several kilometers away and ends 45 minutes before the next bus, and 15 minutes after the last one.

I don't have to worry about the physics of riding a bike on ice with 15 kilos of cat litter on the back!  I can go shopping at the "good" stores, I can go to the spa, I can go treasure hunting at the "far away" secondhand shops, and it doesn't matter if it's raining or snowing, or bitter cold!  I can wear cute shoes and pretty coats, I can even have a hairstyle ;-)

What a difference a year makes!
