I'd wanted so badly to turn 30 in Paris, but it was not to be. Since then, I've learned that I'm the keeper of my dreams, and so, I'm celebrating this birthday in Venice!
Birthdays aren't even a big deal to me, so it seems sort of silly to say "celebrate." It's more about marking the end of one year and the beginning of another. The past few years have each had such a specific vibe... making the hardest and saddest decision of my life, starting over in a new country, settling in and making it home. Life is so very good to me and I can't wait to see what the next year has in store!
Venice. I don't know why I chose Venice. It just sort of chose me, probably due to the reasonably priced airfare and the steal of a rental flat on a canal near Piazza San Marco :)
I wanted to take a cooking class, but the schools either charged double tuition for single students (insult meet injury... I felt like Miranda on SATC checking the "single woman" boxes on her mortgage app.), or wouldn't offer veg-friendly menus. It's not the end of the world, I'm sure with enough practice I can learn to make my own pasta. I do like to bring something back from each place I visit, but this time, I'll just have to settle for a plastic glow in the dark gondola... or something ;)
So, I'm off to Venice... to eat cannoli, to turn another year older, to sit in the cafés, and just be the maker of new dreams.
